Shaker Roads is a partnership between Maurice Desnoyer and Janice Currie. We make and sell our furniture and small woodenware from our Victorian farmhouse and shop in rural Ancaster. Our teaching classes are also held here.
We make Shaker-style furniture and small woodenware - stepstools, footstools, sitting and counter stools, candle stand tables, sewing tables, sofa tables, blanket boxes, Shaker oval boxes and carriers, memory boxes and trays. Woods used are almost exclusively Ontario hardwoods (cherry, walnut, maple) which Maurice purchases from rural sawmills or mills himself. This wood is also available for sale.
All items are based on original Shaker designs found in various reference books on the subject, or in the remaining Shaker villages.
All items are finished with several applications of tung oil, and bee's wax. No stain is used. As such, each piece is unique. Items shown in our gallery are for reference only - each piece will be slightly different and best appreciated "in person".
Our customers appreciate not only the quality of the work, but also the versatility of the Shaker style - which is timeless - and which can be incorporated into modern or traditional, large or small, settings.
